An exceptionally early Italian ski-area map of Passo Sella, covering the routes between Selva di Val Gardena and Canazei around the Sella and Sassolungo groups. Published in 1939, its Istituto Geografico Militare contour base is overprinted with numerous red downhill ski routes, flagged starting points, blue-shaded ski grounds and the access approach from Selva. Labelled photographic panoramas frame the plan, identifying Ciampinoi, Sass Rigais, the Puez plateau, the Torri di Sella and Cima Boè; one photograph also marks the funivia near Ciampinoi. The sheet thus performs the two jobs of a modern piste map—route planning and immediate recognition of mountain terrain—but keeps them as separate visual systems. Produced just as Heinrich C. Berann’s pioneering oblique winter panoramas were emerging, it is a particularly attractive transitional or “proto-modern” piste map: a precursor in design to the familiar all-in-one panoramic form, though contemporary with its earliest examples. The series legend’s slittovia was a now-obsolete cable-hauled passenger sledge, winched uphill before chairlifts and surface lifts took over. The Sassolungo–Ciampinoi installation was constructed in 1938–39, making this a striking record of Val Gardena’s first mechanised skiing, decades before the interconnected Sellaronda transformed the district.

Packing
Items smaller than A4 size are usually packed in a stiffened, board-backed envelope. Larger items are rolled and packed in postal tubes. Large items which are too stiff to be rolled in wide-diameter tubes are mailed in all-board envelopes. In the unlikely event of damage in transit, please send the affected item or items back to us and we will provide a replacement or refund.

Returns
We accept returns for any reason if sent back to us within 14 days of receipt of your order.
