'The Northern Frontier of Greece 1834 / Enumeration of the Line of Landmarks'
This map, published in the Journal of the Royal Geographical Society, defines the first boundaries of modern Greece. The Treaty of Constantinople (1832) marked the end of the Greek War of Independence and established Greece as an independent state, free from Ottoman control. However, the treaty did not clearly define the border, requiring a detailed survey to "lay down on the ground the several points of the line with the accuracy that a permanent separation of Greece from Turkey required." The results of this frontier survey, conducted by Lt-Col Baker and recorded in this map, are discussed in the accompanying text article, which will be included with the map in its original form, except for the first and last pages, which will be provided as facsimiles.
