'Map of the Parish of St. Mary Abbotts Kensington. Corrected to 1892. Showing the Water Supply and Electric Lighting Districts'
Kensington parish map. Imprint in margin bottom right. Shows ward boundaries and water supply and electric lighting districts. The base-map is a section of Edward Weller's large map of London originally published in The Weekly Dispatch, 1861–62. The map appears to have originated in a proposal made by a Vestryman, Lieutenant General Alastair Macdonald (1830–1907), that the next edition of the parish bye-laws and standing orders be accompanied by a Town Plan. William Chambers Leete (1857–1929) was the Town Clerk of the Vestry and later Royal Borough of Kensington. Born in Chelsea, his parents were provision merchants. He was brought up in the family shop, but after his widowed mother died, he became a clerk in local government. 150 copies of this map were printed on cloth, and a further 200 were mounted and bound in book form [Parish Maps of London to 1900, Ralph Hyde]
