'Tour de France 79 - Miroir du Cyclisme'
The 1979 Tour de France, the 66th edition of the race, covered 3,765 km over 24 stages plus a prologue. This edition was notable for featuring two finishes atop Alpe d'Huez, a first in the Tour's history. French cyclist Bernard Hinault secured his second consecutive Tour victory, demonstrating exceptional versatility by winning both mountain stages and time trials. He also claimed the points classification, showing his all-around capabilities. Dutchman Joop Zoetemelk finished second, while Portugal's Joaquim Agostinho took third place. The mountains classification was won by Italian Giovanni Battaglin, and the young rider classification was claimed by Frenchman Jean-René Bernaudeau. Hinault's Renault team dominated the team classifications, winning both the overall and points team categories. This Tour is remembered for the intense rivalry between Hinault and Zoetemelk, culminating in breakaway by both riders on the final stage - the only time in modern history that the Yellow Jersey was challenged on the ride into Paris - where Hinault secured his seventh stage win of the race. Their dominance was such that they finished nearly half an hour ahead of the other general classification contenders. Additionally, this edition marked a change in the Tour's structure, eliminating split stages in response to a riders' strike in 1978, resulting in a total of 24 stages without splits. The tour passed through Belgium and Swizerland.
