'Boundary of New Recreational Area'
An apparently unrecorded post-Second World War Allied occupation working map defining a military recreational area in the Vienna Woods, west and north-west of the city. Centred on Klosterneuburg, Weidling, Weidlingbach, Mauerbach, Purkersdorf, Mariabrunn and Laab im Walde, the 1:75,000 plan was compiled from four Vienna 1:50,000 sheets. A bold dotted perimeter, coloured local amendments, arrows and marginal numbering record the negotiated boundary. Two attached typewritten slips make the sheet especially revealing: one states that the Soviet Acting Director of the Military Division added an area in July 1947 under file MIL/2501/6; the other records that Soviet Military Division Director General Medvedyev removed an area in August 1948, citing MIL/2501/66 and MIL/1047/G. The map therefore captures four-power administration in operation at a granular level, as apparently minor facilities still required formal Soviet approval and documentary revision. A rare combination of reproduced mapping, manuscript amendment and contemporary bureaucratic annotation, catalogued separately from the 1946 treaty maps.
