'Why Germany Wants Peace Now—The PanGerman Plan as realised by War in Europe and in Asia'
An original First World War propaganda map explaining “Why Germany Wants Peace Now”. Rather than presenting German peace overtures as evidence of moderation, it argues that the Central Powers had already realised much of the Pangerman programme: a German-dominated bloc extending from the North Sea through the Balkans and Ottoman Empire towards Baghdad and the Persian Gulf. Heavy black lines trace projected routes eastwards to the Gulf, Egypt and beyond, offering access to Middle Eastern resources and imperial communications. The population table supplies the headline statistic: Germany now controlled 187,000,000 people, including 40.5 million in occupied territories. Adapted from The New Europe and circulated by the US Committee on Public Information, the map warned Americans that peace on these terms would consolidate German mastery rather than end its expansion—helping justify continued American participation until Germany was defeated.
