Atlas der Bondenbeschaffenheit des Meeres

Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine : Atlas der Bodenbeschaffenheit des Meeres was a classified Nazi-era wartime seabed atlas produced under the authority of the High Command of the German Navy (Kriegsmarine) and compiled by the Deutsche Seewarte (German Naval Observatory). Created during the Second World War, it presents detailed hydrographic data focused on the composition and character of the sea floor, primarily for operational use by naval and submarine forces. The atlas includes charts and diagrams analysing sediment types, underwater geology, and seabed texture, crucial for navigation, mine-laying, U-boat and coastal assault/invasion operations. Issued with a security classification, the work reflects the high level of scientific and strategic planning integrated into German naval warfare. Today, it stands as a rare example of militarised marine cartography and remains of historical interest for both maritime historians and military scholars.
