Bad Wildbad is the Württemberg spa in the wooded northern Black Forest, a bathing town with a long history of aristocratic visitors. Local maps of 1906, 1907, 1910 and 1914 show the town with the Sommerberg, the hill above it, made easier to reach when its funicular opened in 1908. Regional sheets from 1889 to 1906 spread across the Murgtal to Kaltenbronn, the Hornisgrinde and Baden-Baden, mapping the paths, valley villages and high ground explored by visitors.
