Invader (born 1969, Paris) is a French street artist known for his distinctive low-resolution characters modelled on early video games, especially Space Invaders. Since the late 1990s he has created thousands of works made from small, coloured ceramic squares arranged in pixel-like grids and fixed onto walls in more than 80 cities worldwide. Each piece is photographed, catalogued, and assigned a point score as part of his ongoing “Invasion” project. A defining aspect of his practice is his production of invasion maps. For many cities he “invades,” Invader publishes a limited-edition map plotting the exact locations of his installations. These maps—issued as posters or “Invasion Guides”—combine urban cartography with his pixel aesthetic, turning the city plan into a record of artistic occupation. Maintaining strict anonymity, Invader has become one of the most influential street artists of his era, with his maps now highly sought-after extensions of his work.
