This collection of Paris-Dakar Rally maps captures motorsport’s most celebrated desert endurance event through period poster route maps, issued by various French motorsport publishers. First run in 1978-79, after Thierry Sabine’s desert vision, the rally linked Europe with Dakar across the Sahara, combining navigation, speed and survival for motorcycles, cars and trucks. The classic African route ended amid mounting security concerns: following the cancellation of the 2008 rally over terrorist threats in Mauritania, the event moved to South America in 2009; since 2020 the Dakar has been staged in Saudi Arabia, retaining its epic scale and harsh desert character.
