The Royal Institution, founded in 1799 in Albemarle Street, brought experimental science before large public audiences, and its prints centre on Michael Faraday. A print of 1856 shows him lecturing before Prince Albert, and another of 1896 records his table in the lecture theatre. In 1897 the Prince of Wales opened the Davy-Faraday Research Laboratory, and a Victorian view shows the building itself.
