The Seven Sisters are the chalk cliffs between Seaford and Eastbourne, where the folded downland meets the Channel beside the Cuckmere valley. Cary's map of 1832 takes in the Sussex coast and the South Downs from Brighton to Eastbourne. The Geological Survey sheet of 1962 for Eastbourne goes beneath the familiar white outline, mapping the chalk around Beachy Head and along the cliffs. A vintage print of 1943 shows the cliffs with Newhaven.
