On Cornwall's north coast, St Agnes grew up in a landscape shaped by tin and copper mining, and Ward Lock's Red Guides mapped it for the visitors who came later. Antique maps of 1897 by John Bartholomew for the guides link the village with St Ives, Truro and Redruth on one sheet and with Wadebridge and Newquay on another. A vintage map of Newquay and district from 1964 follows the coast through the same country.
