Charles Goad Insurance Plan of London, sheet 65 [Old Broad Street, Austin Friars, Threadneedle Street and the Dutch Church]
Goad's fire insurance plan of London, sheet 65, covers Austin Friars, Old Broad Street and Threadneedle Street (EC2), and it was surveyed with the bomb damage still raw. The Dutch Reformed Church, which was the friary nave granted to Protestant refugees in 1550, was destroyed by bombing in October 1940. Carpenters' Hall in Throgmorton Avenue burnt out to its walls in May 1941. Both returned within the sheet's working life. Arthur Bailey's new Dutch Church of 1950–54 still holds Dutch-language services, and the Carpenters' Company reopened its rebuilt hall in May 1960. The sheet also names Pinners' Hall, Winchester House, Western Union House, the Bank of Montreal, Lazard Brothers and the National Provincial Bank, which became part of National Westminster Bank in 1970. These working plans were produced to assess property and fire risk, and they were kept current with pasted overlays recording changed uses, altered layouts, demolition and new building. The latest dated correction on this sheet is August 1969. Resurveyed and reissued in August 1941, with a 1949 copyright date, the sheet belongs to a group whose key plans were still being corrected in October 1970 and March 1971. Other streets on the sheet include London Wall, Great Winchester Street and Throgmorton Street.
