Great and Little Horton were once a separate township on the edge of Bradford, and their maps show it being drawn into the expanding industrial city. G. W. Bacon's town plans of 1883 to 1898 place Horton beside Manningham, Bowling and the expanding city centre. A Great Northern Railway plan of about 1874 traces the lines approaching Bradford through Horton, Bowling and Holme Top, and a map of 1935 reaches out to Horton Bank, Queensbury and Shelf.
