Horton lies on the northern side of Epsom, where the former Horton Manor estate became the site of a group of large hospitals built to serve London. Vintage maps of 1933 and 1937 show the district beside Ewell, Epsom Common, Chessington and Stoneleigh, with roads running on towards Ashtead and Claygate, before later development. Sheets of 1964 and 1965 follow the same ground after the war, from West Ewell and Woodcote to Nonsuch and the Hogsmill.
