CANARY ISLANDS. View of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. 'Canarie'. MALLET 1683

Price: £88.99

The title of the print names the city as "Canarie". The island shown as "Canarie" on another map from the same book is that of Gran Canaria. The text in the book (which is not supplied with the print) indicates that the town shown is Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The text states "Cette ville est bastie dans la partie orientale de l'ile, dont elle porte le nom, sur le penchant, & au pied d'une petite Montagne" (This city is located in the eastern part of the island, whose name it bears, on the slope, and at the foot of a small mountain"), indicating that the name of the island is Canaria (or Canarie in French).
