Intourist

Intourist, a contraction of the Russian for "Foreign Tourist", was founded in 1929 as the primary travel agency for foreign visitors to the Soviet Union, although tourist numbers were very low until the mid 1950s. It was an arm of the Soviet state, and had tiesd with the KGB. As part of its remit, Intourist published English language maps and plans for tourists. It was privatised in 1992.
