CAPTION PRINTED BELOW PICTURE: 'A Map of the Colne Valley Cloth District'

A pictorial map by Leslie Macdonald Gill of the Colne Valley Cloth District in Yorkshire. Issued as part of a post-war campaign to promote the export trade for cloth from the area, where weaving and the manufacture of cloth had been a traditional local industry. The River Colne in West Yorkshire is formed at the confluence of two brooks that originate in the Pennines close to Marsden. It flows in an easterly direction through the Colne Valley and Huddersfield towards Cooper Bridge where it flows into the River Calder. The map covers the Colne Valley and that of its tributary, the River Holme, and the adjacent towns and factories of Marsden, Meltham, Honley, Slaithwaite, Linthwaite, Outlane, Almondbury, Holmfirth, Netherton, Hepworth, Berry Brow and others. The border of the map features circular vignette views of local landmarks and public buildings.

Packing

Items smaller than A4 size are usually packed in a stiffened, board-backed envelope. Larger items are rolled and packed in postal tubes. Large items which are too stiff to be rolled in wide-diameter tubes are mailed in all-board envelopes.
