Cole, George & Roper, John

George Cole & John Roper (1771-1810) created a set of county maps and town plans for "The Beauties of England and Wales" (1804, engraved by Roper from drawings by Cole). The maps were later published unchanged in "The British Atlas" (1810), and Nightingale's "English Topography" in (1816-1820). They were later republished in the initial editions of Dugdale's "Curiosities of Great Britain, England & Wales Delineated" (1835-1838) with some alterations (they were replaced in later editions from 1842 with maps by Joshua Archer). They were finally reprinted by lithographic transfer in "Collins' Railway & Pedestrian Atlas of England" (1858).
