Illustrated Times

Maps and plans published within the Victorian periodical The Illustrated Times. The Illustrated Times was a British weekly newspaper published between 1855 and 1872, created to challenge the dominance in the marketplace of the Illustrated London News (q.v.). It was published by Fleet Street bookseller David Bogue and edited by Henry Vizetelly, who had campaigned for the repeal of the Stamp Act, a tax on printed materials. The artists who worked for the paper included Gustave Doré (q.v) and Myles Birket Foster. Copies of the newspaper are scarce relative to the ILN. Only our modest stock of prints and maps from the publication are shown here. Click the link to see our full catalogue of prints and maps from the Illustrated Times.
