Lumsden, James

James Lumsden & Son were a Glasgow publishing house. The firm was founded by James Lumsden (1753?-1821) who had been apprenticed to Andrew Bell (q.v.), his son, also James (1778-1856) joined the firm as his apprentice in 1799. There also appears to have been a third James Lumsden (1808-1879). Output included a selection of Scottish maps and travel publications, including a "Plan of the City of Glasgow" (first published 1783, reprinted to 1848), "Duncan's Itinerary" (1820), "Steamboat Companion to the Western Isles" (1839). The firm collaborated with W & K. Johnston (q.v) in the mid 19th century.
