TITLE/CONTENT OF MAP: 'White Chapel workhouse, in part built Anno Domini 1768, enlarged & completed Anno Domini 1812. Repaired, improved and further endowed by Benjamin Goodwin Esq, formerly of Saint Edmonds Bury, and many years an inhabitant of this parish Anno 1767'

The view at the top shows the Whitechapel Society School, "repaired, improved and further endowed" by Benjamin Goodwin, formerly of Bury St Edmunds. The map at the bottom shows part of Whitechapel Road; the map is orientated towards the south. The workhouse is shown onthe lower (ie the north) side of the Whitechapel Road, adjacent to the school. New Road runs perpendicular to the Whitechapel Road in the upper left hand corner of the map (ie running in a southerly direction off the main road).

DATE PRINTED: The date of publication stated on the title page of the volume within which the print was published was 1825. The publication date printed on the sheet itself is 1st January 1819. However, evidence from elsewhere in the volume suggests that this was printed in the 1834 second edition.    

IMAGE SIZE: Approx 34.0 x 25.5cm, 13.25 x 10 inches (Large)

TYPE: Antique copperplate engraved print on stiff, good quality paper

The map you will receive is in good condition but there may be minor variations in the condition from that shown in the image. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase.
