An untitled map of what is now the United States by John Gibson, published in the June 1763 issue of The Gentleman's Magazine. The map offers a detailed depiction of Britain's colonial expansion: the Carolinas, Georgia, and Virginia are shown extending as far west as the Mississippi River, much beyond the dotted line along the Appalachians which notes that "Formerly the French Claimed all ye Country Westward of this line". It features numerous Native American tribal territory and settlements, early forts & mines, particularly along the Mississippi Valley. The map refers to Texas as "High Land". Its range includes most of Florida, the Great Lakes, and New Mexico.
