The chart has been manually annotated to illustrate the Orient 92 deployment, a significant Royal Navy operation in 1992, involving a task group led by the aircraft carrier HMS Invincible. The deployment, which lasted from 12 May to 27 November 1992, included several vessels: HMS Invincible (R05) as the flagship, HMS Newcastle (D87), HMS Norfolk (F230), HMS Boxer (F92), RFA Olwen (A122), and RFA Fort Austin (A386). Task Group 318.1 participated in various joint exercises, including Exercise Sea Cobra near Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean during late June and early July 1992, while making diplomatic port visits to locations such as Piraeus, Mombasa, Singapore, Yokosuka and Tokyo in Japan, Pusan in South Korea, Penang, and Hong Kong. The deployment demonstrated the Royal Navy’s global reach and operational capabilities, enhancing international relations and interoperability with allied nations. HMS Invincible carried aircraft including 7 Sea King HAS.5 helicopters from 814 Naval Air Squadron, 2 Sea King HC.4 helicopters from 845 Naval Air Squadron, and 3 Sea King AEW.2 helicopters from 849 Naval Air Squadron. This mission highlighted the Royal Navy's versatility and commitment to projecting power and fostering partnerships worldwide.
